A luxury retail center in Taipei defined by its striking organic cellular facade and soaring atrium dome, creating a seamless interplay between structure, light, and high-end commercial space.
Developed as a competition proposal for the Taipei Building Consortium, the project investigates how a single structural system can perform simultaneously as load-bearing frame, environmental enclosure, and ornamental surface. The result is an extraordinary organic lattice of interconnected circular and elliptical openings — a continuous perforated white shell that dissolves the conventional separation between structure and facade, creating a bold architectural identity within Taipei’s dense urban fabric.
Atrium & Dome
At the heart of the building, a grand multi-level atrium rises beneath a soaring dome constructed from the same cellular vocabulary as the exterior facade. The dome’s irregular pattern of openings allows natural daylight to wash through the interior, casting shifting patterns across the polished floors and curved balconies below. The fluid geometry of the interior circulation, with its sweeping elliptical balustrades and open sightlines, encourages a sense of discovery as visitors move between levels of high-end retail offerings.
Art & Retail
The project seamlessly integrates art and architecture, with a monumental sculptural installation occupying the central void of the atrium, visible from every level. The interplay between the organic lattice structure, the curated retail environment housing brands such as Louis Vuitton and Chanel, and the carefully orchestrated natural lighting elevates the retail experience into one of spatial and sensory richness. The design demonstrates Asymptote’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of parametric and biomorphic design in the service of creating compelling public commercial spaces.
