A striking waterfront arts pavilion for Dubai featuring a dramatic undulating roof of sculptural metallic fins above expansive glass galleries, creating a new cultural landmark on the Arabian Gulf.
Commissioned by TDIC for a prominent pier site along the Arabian Gulf, the project draws its formal language from the dynamic interplay of water, wind, and light that characterizes Dubai’s coastal environment. A series of sweeping metallic fins rise and fall across the roofline in an undulating rhythm, creating a silhouette that evokes both the cresting of waves and the geological formations of the desert landscape. Beneath this dramatic canopy, a transparent glass pavilion houses expansive gallery spaces, public amenities, and outdoor terraces that engage directly with the surrounding waterfront.
Interior & Galleries
The interior is organized around a grand multi-level atrium defined by flowing curved ramps, sculptural staircases, and a faceted tessellated ceiling that filters natural light deep into the building. Gallery floors offer generous open-plan exhibition spaces with full-height glazing that frames panoramic views of the Dubai skyline and the waters of the Gulf beyond. The spatial sequence from entry to upper galleries is choreographed as a continuous promenade, where visitors encounter art installations, sweeping vistas, and dramatic architectural moments at every turn.
Waterfront Public Realm
At the ground level, the building extends onto a generous timber deck that serves as a public waterfront promenade, incorporating outdoor dining, sculpture terraces, and marina access. This activated perimeter dissolves the boundary between the institution and the city, inviting the public to engage with contemporary art and the waterfront setting in equal measure. The project positions the arts center not only as a repository for cultural programming but as a vibrant civic destination anchored to Dubai’s evolving identity as a global center for art and architecture.
