Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates 2010 Saadiyat Island Cultural Development Authority / GCAM Group Two cultural pavilions within Saadiyat Island Cultural Masterplan Commissioned

Two specialized pavilions for digital and media-based art within the Saadiyat Island Cultural District masterplan in Abu Dhabi — flexible exhibition environments dedicated to immersive installations, projection-based works, and interactive media experiences that complement the island's major museums and cultural institutions.

Saadiyat Island’s Cultural District in Abu Dhabi — home to the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the forthcoming Guggenheim Abu Dhabi — represents one of the world’s most ambitious concentrations of cultural institutions. Designed in collaboration with the GCAM Group, this project contributes to that vision by introducing two purpose-built pavilions dedicated to the exhibition and production of digital and media-based art, addressing a format that the district’s larger museum buildings were not specifically designed to accommodate.

Exhibition & Technology

The architecture explores the relationship between advanced technology, immersive media environments, and contemporary cultural space. Each pavilion is organized as a flexible exhibition environment capable of hosting large-scale digital installations, projection-based works, and interactive media experiences.

Adaptable Interiors

The design emphasizes adaptable interior volumes that support rapidly evolving digital art practices, allowing artists to transform the spaces through light, projection, and immersive audiovisual environments. Public circulation areas and exterior gathering spaces connect the pavilions to the broader cultural landscape of Saadiyat Island.

Cultural Vision

Together the pavilions contribute to the island’s vision as a global center for art and culture, complementing the major museums and cultural institutions planned for the district while establishing a platform for emerging digital artistic practices.
