Carlos Miele Flagship Store

Meatpacking District, New York, USA

New York, USA 2003 Carlos Miele 540 sqm Completed - Built

A flagship retail environment in Manhattan's Meatpacking District designed for the Brazilian fashion designer Carlos Miele, creating an immersive spatial experience that reflects the fluidity and sculptural sensibility of the designer's work.

The Carlos Miele Flagship Store in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District was conceived as an immersive retail environment for the celebrated Brazilian fashion designer. The project translates the fluidity and sculptural sensibility of Miele’s fashion collections into an architectural interior that functions as both retail space and spatial experience.

Interior Architecture

The interior is organized as a continuous flowing environment where fashion presentation, fitting areas, and social gathering spaces merge within a dynamic spatial sequence. Curvilinear surfaces sweep from ceiling to floor in unbroken gestures, creating layered enclosures that frame garments as objects within a sculptural landscape. Biomorphic wall openings establish visual connections between zones while maintaining a sense of discovery as visitors move through the space.

Materiality & Atmosphere

All surfaces are finished in a luminous white that shifts between warm and cool tones under carefully calibrated lighting. Circular glass fixtures and floor-recessed lights create pools of illumination that emphasize individual garments, while the polished floor plane reflects the architecture above, doubling the perceived volume. The monochromatic palette allows the color and texture of the fashion collections to become the primary visual event within the space.

Sculptural Program

Furniture, display elements, and architectural features are conceived as a single continuous system. Seating benches grow from walls, columns bloom into canopy forms, and hanging rails emerge from curving surfaces — eliminating the distinction between architecture and fixture. Mannequins and garments are suspended within the spatial flow, inhabiting the architecture as figures within a landscape rather than objects on a shelf.

Brand & Experience

The project positions the flagship store as an extension of the Carlos Miele brand identity — a space where architecture, fashion, and culture converge within one of New York’s most dynamic creative neighborhoods. The design established a new typology for fashion retail that Asymptote would later develop further in the Carlos Miele Paris store on Rue Saint-Honoré.
