Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates 2008 Aldar Properties High-rise residential tower Commissioned — Design completed through all phases

A contemporary residential landmark within Abu Dhabi's skyline — a sculptural tower form that responds to the region's climate through integrated shading strategies, with a multi-level amenity podium and panoramic views across the surrounding city and waterfront.

Completed in 2013 for Aldar Properties, the Strata Tower addresses one of the central challenges of high-rise residential design in the Arabian Gulf: delivering expansive views and generous glazing while managing extreme solar exposure. The project’s formal strategy emerged directly from this environmental imperative.

Tower & Facade

The tower organizes residential units around a vertically articulated structure that maximizes views across the surrounding city and waterfront while introducing shading strategies that mitigate solar exposure. The building’s geometry creates a dynamic interplay of solid and void, producing a facade that responds both visually and environmentally to the desert context.

Amenities & Living

A multi-level podium integrates residential amenities, communal spaces, and landscaped terraces that extend the living environment beyond the individual apartments. These shared spaces create opportunities for social interaction and enhance the residential experience while contributing to the building’s urban presence.

Urban Landmark

The Strata Tower positions high-rise residential architecture as both lifestyle environment and urban landmark, reinforcing Aldar’s vision for contemporary living within Abu Dhabi’s expanding metropolitan landscape.
