Las Vegas, USA 2019 Madison Square Gardens 5,000 sqm Commissioned

Concept for the GALLERY within the Madison Square Gardens Sphere in Las Vegas — an interior architecture of crystalline light panels, timber-clad volumes, and intelligent lighting that transforms between refined public lobby, atmospheric gallery, and fully immersive digital environment.

Commissioned by Madison Square Gardens during the development of its landmark Sphere venue in Las Vegas, the GALLERY project challenged Asymptote to design an interior environment capable of operating across radically different modes — from refined public lobby to fully immersive digital canvas. The design responds with a modular architectural system that can be reconfigured spatially and atmospherically for each event, integrating spatiality, technology, and tectonics into a single adaptable framework.

Crystalline Light Panels

At the heart of the design language is a system of floor-to-ceiling crystalline light panels that define the primary spatial sequence of the GALLERY. These superscaled modular components function as both architectural partition and programmable illumination — in their default state emitting a luminous white glow, and through the integrated intelligent lighting system shifting through sequences of color that transform the atmosphere of the space in real time.

Material Palette

The interior palette establishes a dialogue between natural warmth and technological precision. Timber-clad surfaces wrap reception desks, enclosure pods, and wall zones, providing acoustic warmth and tactile richness against the ethereal quality of the crystalline screens. Polished floors, satin-finish stainless steel, and glass balustrades complete a material language that reads as both refined hospitality and advanced technology.

Scalable Public Realm

The design creates a scalable proof of concept for the public realm — from the grand lobby hall defined by the crystalline panel sequence, through multi-level atria with glass circulation galleries, to intimate timber-clad pods with circular apertures that house smaller program elements. Each zone can accommodate different functions and diverse demographics while maintaining architectural coherence.

Atmospheric Modes

The GALLERY operates across a spectrum of atmospheric intensities. In its default condition it presents as a sophisticated, luminous public interior. Through programmable lighting it transforms into an immersive color environment where visitors move through fields of shifting hue. At maximum intensity, every surface — walls, floor, ceiling, and columns — becomes a projection canvas for digital content, dissolving the boundary between architecture and image.

Kinetic & Intelligent Systems

Mechanically kinetic elements and integrated intelligent lighting technologies allow the GALLERY to reconfigure spatially and atmospherically for each event. The modular component system — crystalline panels, glass fin screens, timber enclosures — provides scaffolding for exhibitions, product launches, performances, and cultural programming within a cutting-edge 21st-century venue.
