Azzano Retail and Medical Campus

Bergamo, Italy
Asymptote has designed a mixed-use project that comprises of a new luxury shopping center, a new 300-room hotel, two midsized office towers, a mixed-use entertainment facility and a body augmentation health clinic.
Design Concept

The Bergamo Azzano development is a unique cultural and commercial destination adjacent to the Orio al Serio Airport. The concept of the master plan and the architectural design of its various buildings centers on creating a vital and exuberant new "urban landscape" for the area flanking the airport. The master plan considers the different vantage points overlooking the site, including those from aircraft departing and arriving at the adjacent terminals.

Space Program
The distribution of massing, the formal interplay of building volumes, and the interweaving of public open spaces produce a new urban terrain. The complex is composed of a dynamic composition created with a unique architectural language, comprising retail, wellness, hotel, and entertainment programs. In contrast to other scale developments, such as typical office parks and retail centers consisting of predictable and bland architecture, this complex proposes a new urban territory of activity, complexity, variety, and vitality.
