The first US-based Alessi store, designed to create a new identity for the brand through a sequence of geometrically articulated interior spaces that transform a conventional retail program into an immersive environment integrating café, bar, exhibition area, and custom display systems manufactured by Vitra.
The design of the Alessi Flagship creates a new identity for the Alessi brand and increases its global presence with the launch of this first US-based store. Asymptote designed the store’s interior architecture to reflect the brand’s reputation for innovation, quality, and engagement in everyday life.
Spatial Sequence
As the SoHo site is deep and relatively narrow, Asymptote developed a sequence of spaces characterized and delineated by a geometric manipulation of the walls and ceiling that progresses through the length of the space. Integrated with the faceted geometry of the walls and ceiling, bands of light are spaced regularly throughout the store, functioning as spatial thresholds between one interior module and the next.
Program & Experience
Beyond the display of merchandise, Asymptote designed a café, a bar, and a small exhibition area, effectively transforming an otherwise conventional retail program into an environment that engages visitors. The storefront window projects the interior space into the urban environment of SoHo. At the store entrance, iconic pieces from Alessi’s historic repertoire are exhibited in illuminated display modules inserted seamlessly into the walls.
Custom Design
The café is integrated into the store’s architecture with recessed seating and an articulated 3D-milled counter set against a large-scale custom-designed wall graphic. Asymptote also custom designed the store’s unique modular display system, manufactured by Vitra, that showcases the store’s merchandise throughout the space.
