A refined lakefront residence in Lakeville, Connecticut — a single-story bungalow where a sculptural zinc roof arcs fluidly over living volumes clad in natural stone, with soaring vaulted ceilings and panoramic glazing that open to the lake in all four cardinal directions.
Lakeview House, designed by Asymptote Architecture for Quentin Van Doosselaere and Risa Gerber, is a refined lakeside residence nestled in the scenic beauty of Lakeville, Connecticut. Sited on a stunning waterfront property, the house is conceived as an architectural extension of the landscape — a sculptural bungalow where material depth meets spatial lightness. At approximately 7,500 square feet, the single-story dwelling establishes an intimate relationship with its lakefront setting through full four-directional exposure and seamless interior-exterior spatial transitions.
Architecture & Form
Clad in natural stone with a zinc roof that arcs fluidly over the living volumes, the architecture balances permanence with movement. The house’s horizontal composition is enriched by soaring vaulted ceilings that open to all four cardinal directions, creating a continuously shifting relationship between interior space and its natural surroundings. The sculptural zinc canopy — the defining element of the design — rises and folds in response to the program beneath, compressing at intimate thresholds and expanding over the primary living spaces to create volumes of dramatic scale and light.
Interior & Light
Every room in the house offers curated views — from intimate garden vignettes to dramatic lake panoramas. The internal layout privileges openness and flow while maintaining distinct zones for living, entertaining, and retreat. Linear skylights cut through the vaulted roof structure, channeling natural light deep into the interior and casting shifting patterns across the white ceiling planes throughout the day. A walnut-framed pivot door at the entrance establishes the threshold between arrival and the expansive panorama beyond, its warm timber framing the first view through the house to the lake.
Material & Detail
The palette of stone, zinc, glass, and wood is restrained yet tactile, delivering a serene, elemental atmosphere throughout. Polished concrete floors anchor the interior with a cool, reflective surface that amplifies the natural light entering from all sides. Built-in walnut millwork provides moments of warmth and craft against the otherwise mineral palette. The home’s design expresses a quiet monumentality — grounded and deliberate — while offering a deep emotional and sensory connection to the site.
Lakeview House is both a sanctuary and a statement. It represents Asymptote’s ability to design residences that are simultaneously intimate and architecturally bold, merging material integrity with landscape immersion.
