Atmospherics

Phillips de Pury & Company, New York

New York, USA 2008 Realized

Atmospherics was a groundbreaking exhibition showcasing select works by Asymptote from the early 2000s. Hosted at Phillips de Pury & Company Galleries in New York City, the solo exhibition featured the M_Scape sculptures, de Pury Baldachin, M_Scape furniture, Mantella Screens, gold-plated jewelry and cigar boxes by Mallet London, and the debut of the LQ Chandelier by Zumtobel Austria.

Presented in the Phillips de Pury & Company galleries, the exhibition brought together a body of work developed over the preceding years — objects that had emerged from Asymptote’s parallel investigations in sculpture, furniture, and spatial installation. Together, the assembled pieces created an immersive environment that explored how we perceive objects, spaces, and forms through atmospheric realities of form, surface, and light.

Asymptote’s oeuvre in this exhibition bridged sculpture, furniture, and spatial installation, creating a new kind of interaction with objects. Each piece transcended pure utility, acting as a character within a stage-like, immersive setting. The works traced a journey from sculptural investigation to functional forms—seating, tables, screens, lighting, and playful objects—while retaining their formal complexity and distinctive surfaces.
