Asymptote Wins Competition for the Carob Warehouse Arts Complex in Limassol

Asymptote has been selected as the winner of an invited international competition for the Carob Warehouse Museum of Contemporary Art on the Limassol waterfront, a shortlist that also included BIG, OMA, and Foster + Partners.

Asymptote Architecture has won the invited international competition for the Carob Warehouse Museum of Contemporary Art, a new civic and cultural complex on the Limassol waterfront in Cyprus. The shortlisted field also included Bjarke Ingels Group, OMA, and Foster + Partners.

Commissioned by the PSI Foundation, the winning scheme transforms a post-industrial stretch of shoreline — named for the historic carob warehouses that once lined it — into a destination for visual art, performance, and education. A series of sculptural, wave-like roof forms defines the architecture, drawn from the coastal topography and sheltering exhibition galleries, a black box theater, media and events halls, and flexible educational spaces. The project anchors a broader effort to reclaim the Limassol waterfront as public civic space.
