Asymptote Architecture was founded in Milan in 1988 and established in New York in 1989 by Hani Rashid and Lise Anne Couture. The studio pursues architecture as a medium negotiating between the virtual and the physical, the speculative and the built, with work spanning museums, performing arts centers, transportation terminals, commercial headquarters, hospitality, residential towers, masterplans, interiors, and experimental outputs including installations, virtual environments, sculpture, and drawings.

Hani Rashid is Professor of Architecture at Columbia University GSAPP and co-founded Asymptote in Milan in 1988 with Lise Anne Couture. Lise Anne Couture is Professor of Architecture at Parsons School of Design. Both principals lecture internationally and the practice's work has been widely published, exhibited at institutions including the Venice Architecture Biennale, MoMA, the Guggenheim, and the Centre Pompidou, and recognized with major awards including the Frederick Kiesler Prize for Architecture and the Arts.
